Maundy Thursday is the beginning of the “Tridiuum,” the traditional Holy Week service that spans three days: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. On Maundy Thursday, we remember Jesus’ last supper with his disciples. We follow his commandment to wash one another’s feet as signs of servant leadership. At the conclusion of the service, the altar and church are stripped so that the church becomes the empty tomb for the events of Good Friday.
