Week of Events

Just Visiting?  Welcome!

We know that venturing out to a new church for the first time can be a challenge. Below we have tried to identify and answer most of the frequently asked questions (FAQs) that first time visitors might have. If these don’t answer all your questions, please contact our church office directly. We are eager to welcome you and make your first visit with us a rewarding and comfortable one!

Our church is located at 79 Denton Road in Wellesley, Massachusetts, in the Wellesley Square section near Wellesley College. For worship, enter our main entrance located on Washington Street, and for church business, enter from the Denton Road entrance, and go up the steps. (Note that Denton Road is a U-shaped road, and we are on the western end.) Click here for directions and map.

Sundays at 8am, 10am, and 5pm. Wednesdays at 7:30am. During August, St. Andrew’s parishioners gather with the members of Christ Church United Methodist, Wellesley Hills Congregational Church and Wellesley Congregational Village Church, for joint worship services at 10am. Preachers and locations rotate through the various churches.

Sunday early morning service and Sunday evening service typically are less than an hour in length. Sunday 10am services vary in length from one hour to an hour and 20 minutes, depending on whether communion is served and whether there are special events during the service, such as baptisms or special music. Weekday services last 30-45 minutes and Morning Prayer lasts about 20 minutes.

If you are joining us for church school, arrive at 9:45am. If you are coming to attend for worship only, plan to arrive about 10 minutes before the service starts in order to have time to find a seat and get settled.

St. Andrew’s parking lot is just west of the church on the left side of Washington Street between Denton Road and Cottage Street (traveling west on Washington). Parking is also available on Washington Street. Please observe the posted parking restrictions. The public lot located on the corner of Weston Road and Washington Street is also available on Sunday mornings.

Our church comprises three floors and includes the Wellesley Montessori School. The basement level includes the parish hall, the toddler room, church school classrooms for grades K-2 and various other meeting spaces. The first floor is at street level with Washington Street and includes the main sanctuary, transept chapel, children’s chapel, offices and the Harvey Room (a gathering space). The second floor is reached by the steps near the Harvey Room and includes church school classrooms for grades 3 to 7.

  • Ages 0–2: Childcare is provided at no charge. Some parents keep their babies with them in the service. Location: Childcare is on the basement level.
  • Ages 3–4: Children in this age group attend classes each Sunday from 9:45am to 11:15am. Worship consists of a simple prayer service with lots of singing and storytelling. Location: Classroom
  • Grades K-7: Elementary school children attend grade-level classes starting at 9:45am and join in worship at the time of the Peace on Holy Eucharist Sundays. On All Parish Eucharist Sundays (once a month), these children are in church with their families for the entire worship service. Locations: Grades K-2 are on the basement level. Grades 3-7 are on the second floor.

There is a big range of dress at St. Andrew’s — from suits and dresses to khakis and slacks! Generally, most people attend wearing “business” or “business casual” attire. We care about who you are on the inside, not what you are wearing. Feel free to wear whatever you feel most comfortable in for church.

We offer coffee hour almost every Sunday after the 10am service. The coffee hour takes place in our parish hall downstairs except in the summer when we gather in the front garden. Please don’t be shy — join us! Look for volunteers wearing a name tag who are there to welcome newcomers.

Please fill out the “Welcome” card located in the narthex or speak to a volunteer greeter after the 10am service. The greeters would be happy to speak to you about any questions you may have and can take down your contact information. St. Andrew’s publishes a newsletter, The CALL, emailed to you unless you need it mailed through the USPS, and a weekly email, the e-Pistle, with clergy commentary, information about the week’s activities, and other timely content.

If we haven’t answered all your questions here, please call the church office at 781/235-7310. Office hours are 8:30am to 5:30pm Monday through Thursday and 9am to 1pm on Friday. Summer office hours are 8:30am to 3:30pm Monday through Thursday and 9am to 1pm on Friday. August hours are 9am to 12pm. Or email us with your questions: kate@standrewswellesley.org.
